Class IV Laser Therapy

Clinicians are using laser therapy more often than ever before to help reduce pain and inflammation related to many common conditions.

Thousands of doctors and patients have experienced the power of laser therapy and are familiar with its therapeutic effects, but for those who aren’t, here are things everyone should know about it: sx

CONDITIONS TREATED
Soft Tissue Injuries:
• Herniated disc
• Knee Pain
• Planter Fasciitis
• Back and Neck Pain
• Tendonitis and Carpal Tunnel
• Elbow Pain
• Shoulder Pain
• Leg Pain
• Sprains and Strains
• Repetitive Strain Injuries
•Rheumatoid Arthritis
•Osteoarthritis
•Venous Ulcers
•Diabetic Foot Ulcers
•Burns
•Deep Edema / Congestion
•Sports Injuries
•Auto & Work Related Injuries
•Nail Fungus

 Neurogenic Pain:
• Spinal Stenosis
• Diabetic Neuropathies
• Trigeminal Neuralgia
• Neuritis
• Bells Palsy
• Shingles
• Fibromyalgia
• Sciatic Pain
• Neuropathy
•Tendinopathies
•Herpes Zoster (Shingles)

Why is Laser Therapy better than some other forms of treatment? It does not require the use of drugs or surgery, it’s very safe with less side effects or risks, and it is quick and convenient. Studies have shown that it is equal to or more effective than other forms of rehabilitation. Over 1500 published research studies demonstrate:

What does Laser Therapy do anyway? Physiological effects of Laser Therapy:

  • Decreased pain levels
  • Reduced inflammation
  • Increased tissue proliferation & regeneration
  • Accelerated soft tissue and bone repair
  • Increased tissue tensile strength
  • Enhanced nerve regeneration & function
  • Increased cell metabolism
  • Increased enzymatic responses
  • Increased cell membrane potentials
  • Increased microcirculation & vasodilation
  • Increased lymphatic flow
  • Increased collagen production

How many treatments does it take? This depends on the nature of the condition being treated. For some acute conditions, 6 to 9 treatments may be sufficient. Those of a more chronic nature may require 15 to 20 (or more) treatments. Conditions such as severe arthritis may require ongoing periodic care to control pain. It is not uncommon to see significant improvement in just one session.

Therapeutic effects of Class IV Therapy include:

  • improved healing time; three to five times faster than with other treatments
  • reduced pain
  • improved circulation
  • reduced inflammation
  • pain relief effects can be felt immediately

How long do treatments last? The Class IV is effective for acute and chronic conditions, including post-surgical pain. Each session is 3- 15 minutes depending on the condition being treated.

Does it hurt? What does a treatment feel like? You really don’t feel much…there is little or no sensation during treatment. Occasionally one feels mild, soothing warmth or tingling. Areas of pain or inflammation may be sensitive briefly before pain reduction. Our laser uses the 810nm wavelength.

  • Class 4 lasers are any laser that has one or more laser beams with an output of 500mW or more. For smaller body parts 3-5 watts is sufficient for larger parts 6-9 watts is needed.

Our laser provides up to 9 watts. Be sure your doctors is using a laser that is appropriate for your conditions.

Lasers that have larger power ranges offer versatile treatment options. A laser that can be set to operate at high wattage, allows the clinician flexibility to treat low and slow or at maximum output.

The availability of multiple treatment heads offers additional flexibility for the clinician. Our system has different treatment heads, each designed to facilitate optimal delivery in different scenarios. Different sized treatment heads can be advantageous for administering treatments that require varying levels of precision.

Pulsing Versus Continuous: The next factor to consider is pulsing frequency and/or continuous wave operation. A laser can be turned on and off quickly to pulse the laser or it can sweep (operate at a constantly changing pulse frequency).

Continuous Wave (CW) light is best for getting higher dosages quickly so some companies make only CW laser . More expensive lasers do both because sometimes you want the maximum dosage to give people an immediate improvement in their symptoms and sometimes you are OK with a lower dosage if you can get a stronger stimulation effect in the cells.

Are there any safety risks associated with Class IV laser therapy? The Class IV high- powered Laser is extremely safe. However, it is not used over the eyes due to the sensitivity of the retina; therefore, all patients wear protective safety glasses during the treatment. It is not to be used over the thyroid gland or in the eye. It is contraindicated, however, for patients who are taking light sensitive drugs
