Therapy is non-invasive, painless, gentle and 100% safe. Piezowave Therapy provides successful relief of chronic pain and helps restore mobility and strength to injured muscle and ligaments. The use of Piezowave Therapy to treat muscle and tendon related pain began in Europe over 20 years ago. A.C.T requires no anesthetic, no medication, no recovery time and low treatment costs.

HOW DOES PIEZOWAVE WORK? Shockwave delivers thousands of high energy percussions to the affected tissue in the region of treatment, typically “the painful area”. These impulses are cause scar tissue and calcific fibroblasts to break down and this in turn provokes metabolic activity and an inflammatory response which promotes and stimulates healing.

WHAT ARE THE PHYSIOLOGICAL EFFECTS? Piezo-electric shockwave has clinically shown, to have the following effects: 1. Eliminate pain 2. Facilitate healing 3. Improve local microcirculation leading to improved tissue metabolism 4. Increase production of collagen 5. Reduce local muscle tension 6. Help dissolve calcific fibroblasts 7. Stimulate the “washing away” of Substance-P (a pain producing chemical)

Is Piezowave/Shockwave Therapy Safe? Yes, Piezowave therapy is completely safe and there are no risks involved. Piezowave therapy is a much safer alternative to surgery and injections. For this procedure, there is no anesthesia involved and you can immediately return to your daily activities after your session, with no downtime, no pain, and no discomfort.

What Happens During a Piezowave/Shockwave Treatment Session? The patient relaxes on a treatment table. The doctor uses gel to ensure the Piezowave device glides smoothly over the skin above the painful muscle or soft tissue while adjusting the depth and intensity of the sound waves.

In your first session, you may experience instant pain relief or some slight soreness as your own natural healing processes are triggered. As the series of sound wave pulses penetrate your skin, they can cause a dull ache, a signal that your body is responding. A typical treatment session lasts 15-20 minutes.

How Many Sessions Does it Take to See Results? The doctor will assess the patients and makes recommendations on the basis of the site of the pain and the underlying condition causing it. Piezowave therapy may be used in combination with other treatments such as chiropractic exercise and physiotherapy.

Typical recommendations include a series of between 6 to 8 sessions, scheduled 3-7 days apart, depending on the individual.

WHAT IS THE SUCCESS RATE OF SHOCKWAVE TREATMENT? The worldwide reported rate of clinical success with Shockwave therapy is between 77%-80%. Our patients have reported successful results in line with these same parameters. For those who do not respond favorably to the treatment, other modes of therapy and treatment should be considered and proper referrals will be made to the appropriate specialists.

WHAT ABOUT “PHYSICAL ACTIVITY” vs. “REST” FOLLOWING THE TREATMENT? It is recommended that you refrain from physical activity, especially the ones that would involve the treated region for 48 hours following each treatment.

Advantages:

• Alleviation of musculoskeletal pain • Improves mobility • Non-invasive • Reduces the need for pain medications • Outpatient treatment • Short therapy time of approx. 10-20 min. • Patient-guided focused therapy
